Ultima 500 MANUAL & TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Piezo Electric Scalers

If you have purchased the Ultima 500 1 with no lights (54042), your Dental Unit comes with a Non-Lighted Scaling Handpiece. If you purchased the Ultima 500 1 Complete (54043), your unit comes with a LED Scaling Handpiece.

When attaching the scaler handpiece to the cord and connector, line up the gray dot on the handpiece with the gray dot on the cord and connector and push them together. The handpiece is now connected and is ready to receive scaling tips.

Satelec® offers over 70 different tips that require different levels of power. To correctly adjust the vibration intensity for the different tips available, the Intensity Dial (Power Control Dial) has been numbered 1-10 and works on a color code system. The tips included are color coded with BLUE RINGS and should be operated in the BLUE ZONE between 6 and 7. Running the tips in a higher range than recommended can cause premature wear and/or possible breakage. Operating the tip in a lower setting than recommended may not provide the power for the intended use. Follow the recommended COLOR ZONES of the tips to maintain peak performance.

Setting up the Scaler
Setting up the Scaler

1. Place the scaling tip of choice onto the handpiece. Use the scaler tip wrench provided to securely tighten the tip. When placing the tip onto the handpiece, ensure it screws on smoothly, do not force it, as it may result in cross threading the handpiece and the tips. Use care when tightening the tips, excessive torque may cause damage to the tip and/or the handpiece.

2. Turn the power control dial down to the lowest setting.

3. Flip the water control switch to the ON position. Using the Water Control Knob, slowly turn in a counterclockwise motion until 2-3 drops of water per second are coming out of the tip.

4. Turn the Power Control Dial up to the intended operating range, according to the tip being used. A small amount of water creates a very fine mist which produces a “halo” effect around the tip providing improved visibility for the used.

Cleaning/sterilization cycle limits

Repeated treatment cycles including manual washing and sterilization have minimal effects on Newtron LED handpiece scaled handpieces, LED ring and optical guide.

Repeated treatment cycled that include ultrasonic cleaning, manual washing and sterilizations have minimal effects on Scaler Handpiece Nosepieces.

End of service life is normally determined by heat and damage due to use.

Important
• Throughout the procedure, wipe blood and/or debris from the Handpiece to prevent it drying on the surfaces.

• In case of external irrigation tubing or configuration of the device with tank, after each use, rinse the irrigation tubing, Handpiece and tip for 1 minute with an enzymatic or alkaline cleaning solution to prevent debris and contamination from drying on the device. Rinse with distilled or purified water for 1 minute to remove the enzymatic or alkaline cleaner. Flush the irrigation tubing to remove liquid from the inside.

• In the case of irrigation coming from the dental practice water network, clean and rinse the cord, the Handpiece and the tip 1 minute after each use.

• Soiled devices should be separated from non-contaminated devices to avoid contamination of personnel or surroundings.

• The Handpiece must be covered with a cloth dampened with purified water to prevent blood and/or debris from drying on the surface.
Containment and Transportation

Soiled devices must be transported separately from non-contaminated devices to avoid contamination.
Inspection

• Handpieces and Nosepieces must be inspected to check that no contamination remains, that they are not corroded, dulled, discoloured or damaged.

• Before packaging and sterilizing the cleaning products, check they are clean, undamaged and function properly. Repeat cleaning steps until no visible contamination remains on the device.

• Damaged devices must be discarded. Handpieces must not be lubricated.
Preparation for Pre-disinfection/Cleaning

It is advisable to treat devices immediately or as soon as possible after use (Satelec® devices must be treated within two hours of use).

After each use and prior to cleaning the device:

• Unscrew the tip at the front of the Handpiece-cord assembly and place it in the appropriate container. The cleaning of the tip is subject to a separate protocol.

• Remove the single-use or autoclavable irrigation tubing and autoclavable clips from the Handpiece-cord assembly, if applicable.
Their cleaning is subject to a separate protocol. Always discard the single-use perforator and/or single-use irrigation tubing.

• Disconnect the Handpiece from the cord.

• With regards to Newtron and Newtron LED Handpieces: unscrew the Nosepiece.

• With regards to the Newtron LED Handpiece: remove the optical guide.

• With regards to the Newtron LED Handpiece: disconnect the LED ring from the Handpiece, pulling it gently.

Packaging

Use suitable packaging for sterilization, such as a Sterile Barrier System in compliance with ISO 11607. Care should be taken to protect handpieces from contact with other objects that may damage their surface or the Steile Barrier System.
Sterilization

Unless otherwise specified, non-sterile products can be re-sterilized using validated steam sterilization methods (ISO 17665 or national standards).

Placeholder

Dry times generally range from 20 to 60 minutes due to the difference in packaging materials, steam quality, device materials, total mass, sterilizer performance, and varying cool-down time. The distributor and manufacturer accept no responsibility for sterilization procedures performed by the customer that are not performed according to these Satelec® recommendations
Storage

Storage conditions for products labelled “STERILE” are printed on the packaging label. Packaged products should be stored in a dry, clean environment, protected from direct sunlight, pests, and extremes of temperature and humidity. Use products in the order in which they are received (“first in, first out” principle), considering the expiration date indicated on the label.
